Pottery workers seek permission for taking sufficient clay for making earthenware

The Pottery workers from the city have petitioned the District Collector on this grievance day to allow them to take the required amount of clay for making earthenware, this season.

The pottery workers also cited that the state government promised to fulfill four of their demands which include taking clay from designated areas, compensation of Rs. 5000 during rainy seasons among others.

'Six demands were put-forth by the Pottery Association on 14th February, 2016 at a conference in Vandalur, Chennai. Following which, the state government accepted to fulfill four of them with immediate effect. But till now, the resolution has not been passed', they lamented.

Close to 40 lakh people are engaged in pottery making business and 500 of them are from Coimbatore. As their business is very seasonal delay in fulfilling their demands will lead to dearth in productivity and financial loss, said the Potters. Hence, they have urged the District Collector to pass on their petition to the concerned department to fulfill their demand on priority.
