The incident occurred when Raj from Tirunelveli, who was visiting his daughter's home in Coimbatore after attending Isha Yoga Center, realized his mobile phone was missing from his bag. Panicked, he reported the loss at the nearby police outpost where on-duty Head Constable Kandasamy was stationed.

Upon receiving the complaint, Kandasamy, along with Constables Muthukrishnan and Madhan, immediately conducted a check on the passengers in the vicinity.
