Bridge Construction Delay at PAP Canal in Kangeyam Causes Distress Among Contractors and Officials

In Kangeyam, the bridge linking work at the PAP Canal on the Kangeyam-Vellakoil National Highway is facing delays, causing severe distress among contractors and officials as the completion hangs uncertain.

Coimbatore:

Residents and farmers in Kangeyam are facing water supply issues as the bridge construction over the PAP Canal on the Kangeyam-Vellakoil National Highway undergoes delays. The contractors and authorities are struggling to connect the bridge to the canal, leading to frustration among the local agricultural community.

Despite the pipes being removed for the reconstruction of a new bridge, which was expected to facilitate better irrigation management in Kadimadai area, the completion of this bridge has been uncertain. Farmers have expressed their disappointment, hoping that the bridge would assist in water distribution for agriculture. They have warned of a protest including a road blockade if the bridge is not completed and functioning properly soon.

Officials from the Highways Department intended to improve the situation through the construction, which is part of a larger initiative to expand the national highway from Palladam to Karur. The new bridge is supposed to replace an old pipe bridge at Veeranampalayam near Vellakoil, aiming to ensure uninterrupted water flow across the highway. However, the connection of the old pipes to the new bridge remains incomplete, causing obstruction in water flow.

Farmers demand immediate resolution and proper completion of the bridge construction to ensure full restoration of the water flow. They are prepared to escalate their actions if necessary to ensure that their agricultural activities are not hampered.
