Mayor Kalpana Anandakumar, along with Coimbatore City Corporation Commissioner M. Sivaguru Prabhakaran IAS, have launched a tree planting initiative at Vellalore dump yard, aiming to plant around 2000 saplings.
Coimbatore: In an effort to enhance the green cover within the city limits, Mayor Kalpana Anandakumar and City Corporation Commissioner M. Sivaguru Prabhakaran IAS have actively participated in a tree planting event at the Vellalore dump yard area, as part of the Corporation’s environmental conservation efforts. The initiative involved planting approximately 2000 saplings of various indigenous species including Neem, Indian Beech, Pongamia and Jamun.
This environmental drive is part of a broader campaign aimed at improving the ecological balance and beautifying the dump yard premises which cover an area of about 9.4 kilometers. The team focused on selected species known for their adaptability to local conditions and potential to improve air quality.
In attendance were also Deputy Commissioner Ka. Sivakumar, Chief City Engineer Anbalagan, South Zone Committee Chairperson R. Dhanalakshmi, Party Leader Karthikeyan, and several council members, alongside the City Health Officer Dr. K. Poopathy, assistant commissioners, regional sanitation officers, assistant engineers, and other municipal officials. The officials instructed maintenance of the saplings, emphasizing proper care and regular monitoring to ensure successful growth and ecological contribution.
