Progressive activists file complaint against Isha Foundation members for alleged attack during a site inspection in Muttathuvayal, Coimbatore. Legal action sought against the Foundation for unauthorized construction activities.
Coimbatore: Tensions have risen in Coimbatore's Muttathuvayal area following allegations by local activists against the Isha Foundation. According to the activists, Subramanian initiated legal proceedings in Chennai High Court, accusing the Foundation of illegally constructing an electric cremation platform on indigenous land without proper consultation or adherence to regulations.
The High Court has instructed the Pollution Control Board to conduct an enquiry into the alleged violations. Meanwhile, Progressive organizations like Tabethic and Tamil Puligal formed an investigative team and visited the site last Friday. During their visit, confrontations erupted as Isha Foundation managers and supporters allegedly obstructed the activists. The altercation escalated, resulting in damage to the activists' vehicle and physical assault.
The progressive activists have subsequently lodged a complaint with the Aalanthurai Police, seeking legal actions against the Isha Foundation officials responsible for the alleged assault. They have also demanded stringent measures against the unauthorized construction by the Isha Foundation, which could potentially lead to serious environmental and societal impacts. In response, a formal complaint has been filed with Coimbatore District Police Superintendent Badri Narayanan on June 18, urging prompt action to address these grievances.
