Krishnasamy Demands Resignation of Chief Minister Over Kallakurichi Incident

Krishnasamy, leader of Puthiya Tamilagam party, demands CM's resignation over repeated illicit liquor deaths in Kallakurichi. Urges for total prohibition in Tamil Nadu amidst rising substance abuse culture.

Coimbatore: Amidst the increasing concerns over illicit liquor deaths in Tamil Nadu, Krishnasamy, the leader of the Puthiya Tamilagam party, has demanded the resignation of the Chief Minister. Speaking from his residence in Kuniyamuthur, Coimbatore, he addressed the media highlighting the disturbing incidents of alcohol-related deaths that have plagued Kallakurichi. "Last year in May, 23 people died in Viluppuram due to illicit liquor, and within a year, another 35 have died in Kallakurichi, with over 70 hospitalized," he explained.

Krishnasamy emphasized that the Chief Minister should accept full responsibility and step down, considering the repeated nature of such incidents under his tenure. "The state-run liquor shops are directly contributing to the culture of substance abuse. The government needs to enforce a complete prohibition to prevent further loss of lives," he stated.

He further criticized the existing law enforcement and government mechanisms, implicating them in allowing the sale and distribution of illegal liquor. "The Tamil Nadu government, including district officials and high-ranking police officers, cannot evade their responsibilities; justice demands they take decisive action against those responsible and ensure such tragedies do not recur," he asserted.

Krishnasamy also mentioned the recommendations submitted by Justice Chandru regarding the avoidance of caste identifiers in schools which he supports strongly. "The Government must implement these recommendations immediately to eradicate caste-based discrimination from the education system," he concluded.
