Kavandachipudur Panchayat Should Not Merge with Dharapuram Municipality, Residents Petition

Residents of Kavandachipudur Panchayat in Dharapuram submitted a petition during the Jamabandi session stating the panchayat should not merge with Dharapuram Municipality.

Tirupur: During the Jamabandi session held at the Taluk office in Dharapuram under the supervision of RTO Senthil Arasan and Tehsildar Govindasamy, residents from Kavandachipudur Panchayat voiced vehement opposition against the proposed merger with Dharapuram Municipality.

The session, which dealt with concerns from 9 revenue villages within the Dharapuram circle, saw residents submitting 220 petitions including demands for transfer of records, implementation of socio-economic entitlements such as the OAP (Old Age Pension).

The protest was sparked by nearly 200 residents from the nine wards of Kavandachipudur Panchayat, including a significant number of women who besieged the Dharapuram Taluk office. The primary concern expressed by the petitioners was that the merger could jeopardize current employment under the 100 Days Work scheme (MGNREGA), potentially affecting livelihoods. Furthermore, they mentioned that joining with the municipality might lead to higher taxes and unaffordable utility charges for those living below the poverty line, urging the authorities to reconsider the proposed plan.

RTO Senthil Arasan assured that all petitions will be appropriately addressed and forwarded for further consideration.
