Coimbatore's Anaimalai region is set for major enhancements with the renewal of water channels under Palayam channel for Rs 3 crore, Pollachi channel system by Rs 4.15 crore, and Sarkarpathy power station feed canal and reservoir for Rs 4.73 crore.
Coimbatore: In a significant move towards improving the infrastructure in Coimbatore district, the Water Resources Department has announced major rehabilitation works. The old Azhiyar system's Palayam channel in Anaimalai block is slated for reconstruction with an estimated project cost of 3 crore. Additionally, the Pollachi channel system in the Azhiyar dam area will also undergo a restoration costing about Rs 4.15 crore.
Furthermore, the work will extend to the feed canal and reservoir of the Sarkarpathy hydro-electric station in the Samathuvapuram area, with a restoration budget of Rs 4.73 crore. These restoration efforts are expected not only to enhance water management but also to improve irrigation facilities significantly in the region, ensuring better agricultural productivity and water availability for the local communities.
