BJP Leader Annamalai Questions Silence of Communist, VCK, Congress in Kallakurichi Illicit Liquor Case

BJP held a protest in Coimbatore demanding Chief Minister MK Stalin's resignation over the Kallakurichi illicit liquor deaths. Annamalai criticized the silence of Communist, VCK, and Congress parties on the issue.

Coimbatore: Yesterday, in Coimbatore, over 500 BJP supporters were arrested during a demonstration and siege protesting against the Kallakurichi illicit liquor deaths, insisting on the resignation of Chief Minister MK Stalin. The protest took place in a private hall in Ram Nagar, where BJP Leader Annamalai met and consoled the detained BJP activists.

During a press meet, Annamalai alleged that the DMK government is intimidated by BJP and claimed the police denied permission for a peaceful protest. He accused the DMK government of corrupt practices, including selling drugs and allowing a hike in liquor prices at TASMAC shops, and stated the poor were the ultimate victims in the Kallakurichi tragedy, having consumed illicit liquor for Rs. 25, resulting in 55 laborer fatalities. Annamalai held the DMK directly responsible for allowing the illegal liquor sales.

He further accused the DMK government of stifling individual freedom and rejecting a peaceful protest application. Annamalai communicated his grievances to the Tamil Nadu Governor and plans to meet with him coming Monday to discuss these issues further. He questioned the integrity of the DMK and its coalition parties for remaining silent and not addressing the public's concerns regarding the deaths in Kallakurichi.
