Over 200 Villagers Protest at Thali Police Station, Demand Arrest of a Man for Damaging Temple Statues

In Kodangiyam near Udumalai, over 200 villagers surrounded Thali Police Station demanding the arrest of Logu Murugan who damaged statues at Karuppurayan Temple while intoxicated.

Coimbatore: Tensions flared in Kodangiyam near Udumalai as over 200 villagers protested at Thali Police Station demanding the arrest of an individual identified as Logu Murugan, who allegedly damaged temple statues.

The incident occurred last night at the Karuppurayan Temple, where it is reported that Murugan, in an inebriated state, vandalized the Horse and Dog vehicle statues, a revered artifact at the site. Locals, aggravated by the repeated vandalism linked to Murugan over the past few months, have previously submitted complaints to the revenue officer, but claimed insufficient action was taken.

Following the intense protests today, discussions were held between the villagers and Thali Police Station Inspector, who assured that Murugan would be apprehended. This assurance calmed the situation temporarily. However, villagers have threatened to resume protests if strict legal actions are not enforced, as Murugan has a history of involvement in several cases.

This standoff has significantly disrupted peace in the area, with both local farmers and residents expressing severe discontent with the handling of repeated offences.
