AIADMK Party Cadre Arrested in Prohibition Case in Kalvarayan Hills, Kallakurichi

At the time of arrest, Suresh was actively involved in operating an illicit liquor business from Manapachi village, nested in the Kalvarayan hills of Kallakurichi district. Despite previously being detained and having over 40 criminal cases against him predominantly concerning the bootleg trade, he continued his illegal activities.

Salem : An AIADMK party cadre has been arrested by the police in Attur for his involvement in illicit liquor trades. The arrest was made under the criminal charges detailed in Attur Town PS Cr.No. 187/24, which includes sections 4(1)(a), 4(1-A) of the TNP Act in conjunction with 328 IPC.

Suresh, also known as Sureshkumar or Kallanatham Suresh, 40, from Kallanatham, faces these serious allegations due to his long-standing involvement in the bootlegging industry. Despite previous detentions and more than 40 cases against him for similar offenses, Suresh continued his engagement in brewing illegal liquor. His operations were mainly situated in Manapachi village, amidst the Kalvarayan hills in the Kallakurichi district.

Historically known in Attur political circles, Suresh was once the AIADMK Agriculture Wing Secretary for Attur East Union but now remains a mere party member. He frequently traveled to Attur to tend to his ailing mother Saroja, who is herself facing charges related to the illegal sale of IMFL bottles.

The arrest today follows numerous investigative efforts by local authorities to clamp down on the rampant illegal liquor trade within the region. Suresh is currently awaiting judicial custody subsequent to his arrest.

Residents of Kallanatham and surrounding areas are hopeful that this arrest will be a significant step in curbing the illegal activities that have marred the locality's reputation and affected community well-being.
