Vitamin A Supplement Distribution Campaign in Coimbatore

Coimbatore health centers initiate a free Vitamin A distribution drive for children aged 6 months to 5 years to prevent vision issues and enhance immunity, from July 1 to July 31 excluding Wednesdays and Sundays.

Coimbatore: Vitamin A, an essential nutrient vital for good eye health, immune system, and the development of skin, tissue, and bones, is being distributed for free at various health facilities throughout Coimbatore. Recognized for preventing conditions like dry cornea and Bitot's spots, if untreated, could lead to vision loss, Vitamin A is fundamentally crucial for children.

In light of its importance, twice annually, the government conducts free distribution of Vitamin A liquid to children nationwide from ages six months to five years. This year, the health campaign in Tamil Nadu is set to run from July 1 to July 31, operational on all days except Wednesdays and Sundays. Primary health centers, sub-health centers, and Anganwadi centers across the state are the main venues for this program.

Public health departments alongside the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) are collaboratively facilitating this initiative. Through this campaign, a total of 2,72,024 children in Coimbatore district are expected to receive Vitamin A supplementation, aiming at a healthier young population with better vision capabilities. The authorities urge all residents to ensure participation of their children in this valuable health initiative.
