Annamalai Criticizes Quality of TASMAC Liquor, Claims It Drives Youth to Drugs

BJP leader Annamalai criticized the quality of TASMAC liquor in Coimbatore, claiming it's driving youth towards drugs like ganja due to its ineffectiveness.

Coimbatore: During a BJP constituency review meeting at Neelambur in Avinashi Road, Coimbatore, BJP leader Annamalai targeted the state-run TASMAC shops over the quality of the liquor they provide. Speaking to the media, Annamalai said that the poor quality of liquor is pushing the youngsters towards illegal substances like ganja. "There's no intoxication, no quality. This is why youngsters are opting for alternatives like drugs," Annamalai stated at the event which also saw the presence of Pon Radhakrishnan, former Union Minister.

He further discussed the party's strategies and performance in Tamil Nadu, focusing on the necessity to strengthen the party's base in preparation for upcoming elections. The review meeting aimed at analyzing the victories and failures from past elections to better prepare for the future.

On a broader perspective, Annamalai also brought attention to financial transparency issues in TASMAC's operations and criticized the state government's management of health and sanitation standards in Chennai. He indicated that mismanagement is prevalent, and corrective actions are rarely discussed in higher forums like the assembly.

While former Minister Duraimurugan had jokingly acknowledged the ineffectiveness of TASMAC liquor, confirming it was "like water," Annamalai emphasized the seriousness of the issue affecting public health and safety. The dialogue also touched upon the need for policy reforms regarding liquor sales, comparing Tamil Nadu's policies with those of Gujarat and Kerala.

Amidst discussions on various governance and policy issues, the need for enhanced transparency in government examinations like NEET, and judicial reluctance to intervene were amongst other critical topics discussed by Annamalai.
