Two Hospitalized in Coimbatore After Consuming Pesticide-Mixed Liquor

Two men were hospitalized in Coimbatore after consuming liquor mixed with pesticide-laced water at Manjanaickanur near Anaimalai. Preliminary tests confirmed the presence of phosphamidon in their blood.

Coimbatore: A shocking incident occurred at Manjanaickanur near Anaimalai where two men, C Mahendran, 40, and S Ravichandran, 55, were hospitalized after consuming liquor that was inadvertently mixed with pesticide. The incident took place early Friday morning around 8am at a local tea shop where the men were drinking.

After consuming the liquor, both men developed severe health complications and showed symptoms of diarrhoea by Friday afternoon. They were first admitted to Pollachi government hospital. Due to the severity of their conditions, Ravichandran was later shifted to a private hospital near SITRA, and Mahendran to another private hospital in Avarampalayam.

Preliminary inquiries by the police revealed the men had accidentally used water mixed with phosphamidon, a potent pesticide, thinking it was plain water. This vessel of contaminated water was found behind the tea shop. Further testing of the blood samples from both individuals confirmed the presence of phosphamidon. Water samples from the vessel also tested positive for the pesticide.

Police have launched a thorough investigation and formed a special team to track down the person responsible for contaminating the water. The health conditions of the two men are currently stable, and police are taking preventive actions to ensure no further incidents occur.

Earlier reports from Dinamalar claimed the illness was caused by hooch; however, these reports were corrected following the police investigation.
