Coimbatore: In a distressing incident at Coimbatore Central Prison, inmate Dana Sekaran from Ennore, Thiruvallur district, attempted suicide by injuring himself with a broken light bulb. The incident occurred on July 1. Sekaran, who has been serving time for a 2021 drug peddling case, sustained injuries to his chest, neck, and stomach.
Prison guards intervened to prevent further self-harm but were threatened by Sekaran wielding the broken bulb. The jail authorities reported the incident to Racecourse Police Station. Following the complaint, the police have registered a case and are currently investigating the matter. Meanwhile, medical personnel in the prison have provided necessary treatment to Sekaran.
