Coimbatore NXT initiative, in partnership with CII and local industry bodies, held talks with major airlines to enhance domestic and international flight services, focusing on direct and one-stop flights to global destinations.
Coimbatore: In a significant move to enhance air connectivity, the CII Coimbatore Zone, together with leading industry bodies such as CODISSIA, SIEMA, and the Kongu Global Forum, collaborated with prominent airlines like Air India, Indigo, and Scoot. The meeting, held at the CII Coimbatore office, aimed to discuss augmenting facilities and services for both domestic and international flights from Coimbatore.

Key discussions focused on additional services including better connectivity to international destinations such as Dubai and Doha. The industry bodies proposed numerous enhancements like daytime flights from Coimbatore to Pune, improved scheduling for flights to Goa, and the establishment of one-stop flights to Ahmedabad and Kolkata. Also high on the agenda were measures to increase air cargo facilities.
V Murali, Manager Passenger Sales for TN & Andhra, assured attendees that Scoot would restore daily flights to Singapore starting August and would consider deploying A321 series aircraft, increasing passenger capacity to 236.
In response, Priyadarshan, Chief Manager Sales Tamil Nadu at Air India, reassured the focus on Coimbatore, revealing that with new aircraft joining their fleet, the airline intends to intensify operations. This includes newly launched direct flights to Mumbai and Delhi and plans for additional connections to Bangalore.
Indigo's Sales Head for Tamil Nadu, Srinivasan, disclosed upcoming plans for international routes, adding that destinations like Doha, Dubai, Singapore, Abu Dhabi, and Colombo are being considered for future services. The promise of exploring cargo potential was also made.
