Man Arrested for Selling Tobacco Products in Udumalaipettai

Udumalaipettai police arrested a man and seized 205 kg of tobacco products following a tip-off about illegal sales. Two others involved in the operation are being sought.


Tirupur: The Udumalaipettai police arrested a man for illegally selling tobacco products and seized a substantial quantity of contraband in Tiruppur district on Wednesday.

Acting on a tip-off about the unauthorized sale of tobacco products in Sikandar Pasha Street within the Udumalaipettai municipality limits, Inspector Jeevanandham led a team to investigate the area. The police discovered that three individuals were involved in transporting and selling tobacco products using a cargo vehicle.

The accused were identified as Manoj Kumar (26) and Maideen Basha (33) from Udumalaipettai, and Sadam Husain (33) from Pudu Ayakkudi in Palani taluk, Dindigul district. Following the operation, the police arrested Manoj Kumar while the other two suspects managed to evade capture.

During the raid, the police seized 205 kilograms of tobacco products and the cargo vehicle used for transportation. The confiscated items and the arrested individual were taken to the police station for further investigation.

A case has been registered against the accused under relevant sections of the law. The Udumalaipettai police are continuing their investigation to apprehend the other two suspects and to uncover any potential wider network involved in the illegal tobacco trade in the region.
