Woman allege in-laws for dowry abuse.


Divya, 27, a resident of Sulur, Coimbatore, a victim of dowry abuse has filed a petition against this issue at the District Collectorate. In 2011, Divya married Mohan, who hails from Pollachi. The couple have a 4-year-old, daughter, Rithika.

It's alleged that Divya’s mother-in-law has been demanding a bulky amount of Rs.5 Lakhs as dowry. She has even detained her son, Mohan, in his hometown and not allowed Divya to meet her husband.  When any enquiry is made regarding her husband, Divya’s mother-in-law threatens to kill her. Unable to handle such atrocities any longer, she decided to raise her voice against it.

Divya had filed a dowry abuse case at the Singanallur police station. However, she received no response and hence, she has filed a petition at the District Collectorate seeking justice.
