Youth Arrested for Ganja Sale in Saravanampatti; Woman Detained for Selling Tobacco Products in Mettupalayam

Coimbatore police arrest a youth for selling ganja in Saravanampatti and a woman for selling banned tobacco products in Mettupalayam. The incidents occurred on July 5, highlighting the ongoing efforts to combat illegal substance distribution in the region.


Coimbatore: In two separate incidents on July 5, Coimbatore police cracked down on illegal substance distribution, arresting a youth for cannabis sale in Saravanampatti and a woman for selling banned tobacco products in Mettupalayam.

Saravanampatti police, while on patrol, noticed a suspicious youth near the Poonthotam Housing Unit. Upon questioning, the individual provided inconsistent responses, prompting a search that revealed he was selling cannabis. The accused, identified as Rithik (20) from Idikarai Govindanayakkanpalayam, was arrested. Police seized 100 grams of ganja from his possession.

In a separate incident in Mettupalayam, Sub-Inspector Guru Chandra Vadivel conducted a surprise check at a petty shop in TAS Nagar on Ooty Road. The inspection uncovered 600 grams of banned tobacco products (Gutka). Subsequently, Ammani (62), the wife of the shop owner Mani, was arrested in connection with the illegal sale.

These arrests underscore the local law enforcement's ongoing efforts to curb the distribution of illegal substances and banned products in Coimbatore district. Authorities continue to maintain vigilance and conduct regular checks to ensure public safety and adherence to regulations.
