Coimbatore Police Restore 168 Stolen Mobile Phones to Owners

Coimbatore Police Commissioner V. Balakrishnan returned 168 stolen mobile phones to their owners on Saturday. Forty criminals were arrested for cellphone theft this year, with 200 more phones yet to be recovered.

Coimbatore: In a significant move to combat mobile phone theft, Coimbatore City Police Commissioner V. Balakrishnan handed over 168 recovered mobile phones to their rightful owners on Saturday. This event marks a major breakthrough in the city's efforts to curb cellphone-related crimes.

Commissioner Balakrishnan revealed that 40 criminals involved in cellphone theft have been arrested since the beginning of the year. However, he noted that there are still approximately 200 more stolen phones that need to be recovered.

The investigation teams have made an important discovery during their operations. They found that most of the stolen phones were being used in other states, making the recovery process more challenging. This information highlights the inter-state nature of mobile phone theft networks.

In a concerning development, the police have also established a link between stolen phones and cyber crimes. According to Commissioner Balakrishnan, miscreants have been utilizing these stolen devices to commit various cyber offenses, adding a new dimension to the severity of mobile phone theft.

This successful recovery and return of stolen phones demonstrate the Coimbatore City Police's commitment to addressing property crimes and ensuring the safety of citizens' personal belongings. The police continue their efforts to recover the remaining stolen phones and bring more culprits to justice.
