Stray dogs kill spotted deer

Thanjavur: A spotted deer which strayed into human habitat from the reserve forest near Kumbakonam died after it was attacked by a pack of stray dogs today.

About 2.5 -year -old spotted deer strayed from the Kollidam reserve forest area ,about 2 km, into the human habitat in Ayyanallur near Cholapuram  this morning. Then, a pack of stray dogs chased and attacked the deer. Local residents who watched it chased the dogs away, rescued the deer and informed the forest officials in Kumbakonam.



A team of forest officials led by forest ranger Balakrishnan rushed to the spot and took the badly wounded deer to the forest office in Kumbakonam where Arjun, veterinary surgeon, treated it. However, the deer succumbed to its wounds a little later.

Autopsy was conducted on the carcass at the forest office and later it was buried.
