AIADMK Councillor Demands Probe into Former Coimbatore Mayor's Resignation and Alleged Corruption

AIADMK councillor Prabakaran calls for an investigation into former Coimbatore Mayor Kalpana Anandakumar's resignation and alleged corruption during her two-year tenure at a special corporation council meeting held on July 8.

Coimbatore: A special corporation council meeting was held on July 8 at the Victoria Hall meeting hall in the Coimbatore Corporation's main office complex. The meeting was presided over by Deputy Mayor R. Vetri Selvan and attended by Corporation Commissioner M. Sivaguru Prabhakaran. Both DMK and AIADMK councillors participated in the meeting.

Following the meeting, AIADMK councillor Prabakaran addressed the media, raising several concerns about the former Mayor Kalpana Anandakumar and the current state of affairs in the corporation.

Prabakaran stated, "We have repeatedly said that Kalpana Anandakumar, who served as the Mayor of Coimbatore, was an inactive mayor. It seems the DMK has only now realized this fact about her."

The AIADMK councillor emphasized that they have pointed out various instances of corruption in the corporation multiple times. He demanded that the government should form a special committee to investigate why the Mayor resigned and what corrupt activities she was involved in during her two-year tenure.

"In the absence of a Mayor, there is a high risk of various irregularities occurring. Therefore, the Commissioner should directly monitor the corporation's activities," Prabakaran urged.

He also expressed concern about the whereabouts of the former Mayor, stating, "We don't know where the old Mayor is. They are hiding her."

Prabakaran criticized the lack of transparency in the resignation process, saying, "Has anyone seen the Mayor who used to form WhatsApp groups for tenders? The Deputy Mayor didn't even present full details in the council meeting about why she resigned."

The AIADMK councillor's statements highlight the ongoing political tensions and concerns about governance in the Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation.
