Electricity Workers Stage Sit-in Protest at TNEB Chief Engineer's Office in Coimbatore

Tamil Nadu Electricity Workers' Central Organization stages a sit-in protest at TNEB Chief Engineer's Office in Tatabad, Coimbatore on July 9, demanding fulfillment of 20-point charter of demands.

Coimbatore: The Tamil Nadu Electricity Workers' Central Organization staged a sit-in protest at the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) Chief Engineer's Office in Tatabad, Coimbatore on July 9.

The protest is part of a series of demonstrations announced across the state to press for their 20-point charter of demands.

During the protest, the workers raised slogans condemning the Tamil Nadu government and the Electricity Board.

Speaking to reporters, Madhusudanan, the Coimbatore City President of the Tamil Nadu Electricity Workers' Central Organization, said, "Due to unfilled vacancies in the Electricity Board, lower-level employees are working under severe workload and mental stress. This situation has led to frequent accidents and deaths. Despite numerous protests, the government has not lent an ear, which is why we have started this sit-in protest inside offices across Tamil Nadu."

Madhusudanan warned, "If the government does not heed this protest and find a solution, our organization will move towards an indefinite strike across Tamil Nadu." He further added, "We have had multiple discussions with the Electricity Board Chairman and Ministers regarding this issue. Yesterday, the Labor Welfare Commissioner invited us for conciliation talks, but we did not receive satisfactory responses to any of our demands. This government's actions have led to the breakdown of negotiations, forcing us to take to the field today."

The protesters emphasized that their ongoing struggle aims to address the critical issues facing electricity workers and ensure better working conditions in the sector.
