Heavy Security Deployed for Encroachment Removal on Kotagiri-Coonoor National Highway

Authorities began removing encroachments on the Kotagiri-Coonoor National Highway on July 9, following public petitions. The operation is being carried out under heavy police protection to ease traffic congestion.

Coimbatore: The Kotagiri-Coonoor National Highway, a crucial route connecting Mettupalayam to Ooty, has been facing severe traffic congestion due to numerous encroachments along its stretch. Responding to public petitions, authorities have initiated a major drive to clear these illegal structures.

On July 9, a joint operation involving the National Highways Department, Revenue Department, and Municipal officials began the encroachment removal process. The operation is being carried out under heavy police protection to ensure smooth execution and prevent any untoward incidents.

The Kotagiri-Coonoor National Highway is a popular route used by both locals and tourists traveling to Ooty. However, the increasing number of encroachments had led to significant traffic bottlenecks, causing inconvenience to commuters and hindering the flow of vehicles.

The public had submitted petitions to the authorities, urging them to take action against these illegal structures. Heeding these requests, the administration has now swung into action, demonstrating their commitment to improving road infrastructure and easing traffic woes in the region.

Officials expect that the removal of these encroachments will significantly improve traffic flow on this vital highway, benefiting both local residents and the tourism industry in the Nilgiris district. The authorities have assured that the operation will continue until all illegal structures along the highway are cleared, paving the way for smoother and safer travel experiences for all road users.
