The 57-year-old Madurai Veeran Temple in Udumalaipettai, Tiruppur district, celebrated its annual festival with a grand Thirukalyanam ceremony, drawing numerous devotees for special prayers and rituals.

Coimbatore: The 57-year-old Madurai Veeran Temple in USS Colony, Ward 4 of Udumalaipettai Municipality, Tiruppur district, commenced its annual festival on July 9, 2024. The highlight of the festival, the Thirukalyanam (divine wedding) of Sri Madurai Veeran with Bommiammal and Vellaiammal, was celebrated with great fervor today.

The ceremony was conducted under the guidance of Sundar, the chief priest of the Mariamman Temple. Devotees offered 25 types of traditional gifts, including thali (sacred thread) and new clothes, to the deities. The idol of Madurai Veeran was anointed with 14 different substances, including milk, rosewater, flowers, and turmeric, as part of the special abhishekam.

Following the wedding ceremony, which was accompanied by Vedic chants, various rituals such as garland exchange and coconut rolling were performed. The deity, adorned in special decoration, then blessed the devotees. The event concluded with annadanam (free food distribution) for all attendees.

Earlier in the day, women devotees participated in a procession carrying "mulaipari" (sprouted grains) from the Thannatchi Appan Temple area to the Madurai Veeran Temple. The previous day's events included bringing holy water from various sacred sites such as Tiruchendur, Bhavani, and Courtallam, which was used in a special puja at the Vinayagar Temple near the old bus stand before being taken to the Madurai Veeran Temple in a procession.

The festival attracted a large number of devotees who participated in all the events and sought the blessings of Madurai Veeran.
