Kumaraguru's Team Sea Sakthi Wins Four Awards at Monaco Energy Boat Challenge 2024

Team Sea Sakthi from Kumaraguru Institutions in Coimbatore clinches four prestigious awards at the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge 2024, showcasing innovative marine technology and sustainable design.

Coimbatore's Kumaraguru Institutions has once again made India proud on the global stage. Their team, Sea Sakthi, emerged as one of the most promising contenders at the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge 2024, securing four prestigious awards and solidifying their position as innovators in sustainable marine technology.

The Monaco Energy Boat Challenge, now in its 11th year, is a unique event organized by the Yacht Club de Monaco in Monte Carlo. It aims to promote sustainable solutions for the future of boating by encouraging the use of alternative energy sources. This year's event, held from July 2nd to 6th, 2024, saw participation from 450 engineering students representing 40 universities across 25 nations.

Team Sea Sakthi's Impressive Achievements:

1. Innovation Prize

2. Design Prize

3. Communication Prize (won for the third consecutive year)

4. Monaco Town Hall Cup (secured for the second year in a row)

The team's custom-designed twin-propelled innovation, Yali 3.0, not only passed technical inspection but also excelled in sea trials. It achieved a remarkable speed of 13 knots per hour during the speed races, a significant improvement from their previous year's performance.

Innovative Features of Yali 3.0:

1. Fully autonomous boat with a custom-built propulsion system

2. Twin propulsion units, each with a capacity of 6.5 KW

3. Indigenously built 10 KW Lithium Ferro Phosphate Battery Pack

4. Cockpit design incorporating sustainable materials like pineapple fiber and upcycled plastic fiber

5. Three preset power modes: Eco-Mode, Normal Mode, and Sports Mode

6. World's highest energy efficiency classification (IE5) for electric motors

7. Magnetic propulsion system to eliminate energy loss due to water seepage

8. Anti-ventilation plates to prevent loss of traction and reduce slip

9. Sinewave technology for improved performance and efficiency

The team also developed an operating system named 'Yacht OS' to assist in monitoring and navigating the boat. Additionally, they implemented a docking assistance system and used a biometric ring to monitor the pilot's performance and fatigue during races.

Design Innovations:

1. 50% reduction in cockpit weight

2. Improved weight distribution for better performance in choppy waters

3. Aerodynamic nose cone design for smooth airflow

4. Use of composite materials including pineapple fiber and carbon fiber for optimal strength-to-weight ratio

The team's success at the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge is not just a win for Kumaraguru Institutions but a testament to India's growing prowess in sustainable technology and innovation. Their achievements serve as an inspiration to young innovators across the country and highlight the potential for eco-friendly solutions in the marine industry.

As Team Sea Sakthi continues to refine and improve their design, they are setting new benchmarks in sustainable marine technology. Their success story is a clear indication that with the right blend of innovation, dedication, and support, Indian students can compete and excel on the global stage.
