Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam and SFI holds demonstration against NEET

Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam and SFI had held a protest against National Eligibility cum Entrance Tests in front of the BSNL office, near the District Collectorate.

They demanded that admissions to medical schools should be based on entrance exams and not NEET scores. In the past few days, such protests were prominent throughout Tamil Nadu. NEET is based on the CBSE syllabus. Most students of Tamil Nadu come from schools following state syllabus. Hence, NEET puts these students at disadvantage, making it an unfair basis for entrance to medical schools all around India.

Around 70 people took part in the protests, including women. The Police stopped the protestors, as they tried to enter the BSNL office near the Collectorate. This caused a scuffle between the police and the protestors. All the protestors were arrested.  However, we would continue our fight against the NEET examinations' shouted the protestors as they were arrested.
