Landslide and Fallen Trees Disrupt Traffic in Valparai

Heavy rains in Valparai, Coimbatore district, caused a landslide and tree fall between the 23rd and 24th hairpin bends, disrupting traffic for over 100 vehicles. The incident occurred early morning, affecting normal life.

Coimbatore: Heavy rains in Valparai, Coimbatore district, have severely disrupted daily life and caused traffic chaos on the Valparai-Pollachi route. A landslide occurred between the 23rd and 24th hairpin bends, accompanied by fallen trees, blocking the road and leaving over 100 vehicles stranded.

The incident was first noticed around 4:30 AM when a bus driver heading to Valparai spotted the obstruction and alerted authorities. The landslide caused soil and trees from the upper portion of the road to fall, creating mounds of earth on the road surface.

As a result, vehicles traveling both from Pollachi to Valparai and from Valparai to Pollachi were forced to wait in long queues. The fire department and highway authorities arrived at the scene around 7 AM to address the situation. They proceeded to cut down the fallen trees and used JCB machines to clear the debris from the road.

The clearing operation took approximately three hours, during which time traffic flow was severely affected. The heavy rains and strong winds in the area have led to trees falling in various locations, further complicating the situation for residents and travelers in Valparai.

Local authorities are advising travelers to exercise caution while using the Valparai-Pollachi route, especially during periods of heavy rainfall. They are also monitoring other vulnerable areas for potential landslides and tree falls to prevent similar incidents and ensure public safety.
