20-year-old female elephant dies of starvation.

A 20-year old female elephant was reported dead at the Lingapuram, Odanthurai section of Sirumugai Range. Initial reports indicate that this pachyderm lost it's life due to starvation and de-hydration.

Several species of the wildlife including elephants from the Districts of Coimbatore and Nilgris have migrated to Wayannad, Kerala and Karnataka forests due to emerging scarcity of fodder and water.

Dr. Asokaran, Veterinarian in the presence of forest officials held the post-mortem at the same spot and buried the carcass. However, it is reported that lack of fodder and water could have caused the death.
