Coimbatore: In a frightening incident, two wild elephants attacked and destroyed a temporary shelter housing construction workers near Chinna Tadagam area of Coimbatore on the night of July 16. Four workers had a narrow escape as they managed to flee just in time.
The incident occurred at a construction site in Soudambigai Nagar, where Rangaraj, who runs an idli shop in Chinna Tadagam, is building his own house. The workers were staying in a makeshift hut at the site.

Around 11 PM, while the four workers were asleep in the hut, two wild elephants approached the area. The elephants began destroying the hut and attempted to attack the workers. Fortunately, the commotion woke up the workers, who managed to escape unharmed.
The elephants damaged the hut before leaving the area. The incident was reported to the Forest Department officials.
Following this close call, local residents have appealed to the Forest Department on July 16 to take necessary measures to prevent elephants from entering the area and to ensure the safety of the public.
