Coimbatore police arrested five individuals, including three junior actors, during a surprise check near a private college on Sungam Bypass Road. They seized 1.41 kg of ganja and 200 drug pills.
Coimbatore: In a crackdown on drug peddling, the Prohibition Enforcement Wing (PEW) of Coimbatore police arrested five individuals, including three junior actors from the film industry, for possession of ganja and drug pills.
The arrested junior actors are Yasik Ilahi (26) from Pullukadu area in Coimbatore, Maria (31) from Pollachi, and Sneha from Thazhiyur. Two others, Krishnan (24) from R.S. Puram and Mujibur Rahman (27) from Saravanampatti, were also apprehended during the operation.
The arrests were made during a surprise check conducted by the PEW near a private college on Sungam Bypass Road in Coimbatore. The police seized 1 kg 410 grams of ganja, 200 drug pills, three mobile phones, and a two-wheeler from the accused.
Following the arrests, the police have launched a manhunt for four more suspects believed to be involved in the drug network. The suspects at large are Abdul Kalam from Kallamedu, Asik and Rizwan from Karumbukadai, and Sachin from North India.
This incident highlights the ongoing efforts of Coimbatore police to curb drug trafficking and substance abuse in the city, particularly targeting individuals associated with the entertainment industry.
