Coimbatore: The 219th death anniversary of freedom fighter Pollan was observed on Wednesday at the camp office of Adi Dravidar Welfare Minister Kayalvizhi Selvaraj in Dharapuram, Tiruppur district. The minister paid floral tributes to Pollan's portrait and observed a three-minute silence in his memory.
The event was organized by DMK members and Tamil Puli party workers. Minister Kayalvizhi Selvaraj spoke about Pollan's contributions to India's freedom struggle, emphasizing his role in fighting against the British in the Kongu region alongside Dheeran Chinnamalai.

Kayalvizhi Selvaraj highlighted Pollan's crucial role in gathering British military secrets and delivering them to Dheeran Chinnamalai in disguise. This intelligence helped Chinnamalai achieve victories in the battles of Cauvery Banks (1801), Arachalur (1802), and Odanilai (1804). Upon discovering Pollan's activities, the British forces captured and executed him on August 1st in Nallamangapalayam near Arachalur.
The minister mentioned that the main commemoration event for Pollan's 219th death anniversary was being held in Nallamangapalayam, Arachalur. Ministers Muthusamy, Mathiventhan, Kayalvizhi Selvaraj, and Erode MP Prakash were scheduled to pay their respects at the event, along with various political party leaders and movement organizers.
The ceremony at the camp office was attended by several notable figures, including District Lawyer Organizer Selvaraj, Tamil Puligal Party's Western Zone Deputy Secretary Ondi Veeran, DMK Women's Wing member Amudha, Aaron Selvaraj, and Adi Dravidar Welfare Department member Sivasankar, among others.
