28th Annual N.G. Ramasamy Memorial Cup Sports Competition Held in Coimbatore

The 28th Annual N.G. Ramasamy Memorial Cup Sports Competition was held in Coimbatore, attracting thousands of students from across the district. The event featured five sports categories and saw enthusiastic participation from over 80 schools.


Coimbatore: The 28th Annual N.G. Ramasamy Memorial Cup Sports Competition was held at the Thiyagi N.G.R. Memorial Higher Secondary School ground in Varadharajapuram, Coimbatore. The event, organized by the Thiyagi N.G. Ramasamy Sports Club, saw enthusiastic participation from thousands of students across the district.



The opening ceremony was presided over by the school's headmaster, Sadasivam. The event was coordinated by Amirtharaj, President of the Thiyagi N.G. Ramasamy Sports Club, and Vijayakumar, the Secretary. Senthil Nathan, the administrator of Star Nursery Primary School, was the guest of honor, while Kannappan, the Physical Education Director of Cheripalayam Government School, welcomed the gathering.



Special guests included Tamil Selvan, Physical Education Teacher from Vellalore Government School, and Balasundar, Assistant Professor at Sri Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya College. The sports meet was inaugurated by Mounasamy, Secretary of Hopes Walkers Club, and Gandhi Raj, General Manager of LCC Company, who hoisted the flag.



The competition saw participation from over 80 schools, including municipal, government, government-aided, and private schools from Coimbatore and Pollachi educational districts. Approximately 2,500 students took part in the event.



Five sports categories were featured in the competition: basketball, handball, kho-kho, kabaddi, and badminton. Separate events were held for boys and girls in three age categories: under 14, under 17, and under 19.

The N.G. Ramasamy Memorial Cup Sports Competition serves as a preparatory event for students before participating in the upcoming competitions organized by the School Education Department. The enthusiasm and active participation of the students highlighted the importance of such events in promoting sports and physical fitness among the youth.
