Over 50 residents, including schoolchildren, staged a sudden road blockade near Palladam, Tiruppur district, demanding basic amenities like street lights and drinking water. The protest caused traffic disruption for about an hour on Kangeyam Road.

Coimbatore: Residents of Vannanthurai Puthur village near Palladam in Tiruppur district staged a sudden road blockade on Tuesday morning, demanding basic amenities for their area. The protest, which included schoolchildren, disrupted traffic on Kangeyam Road for about an hour.

The village, which falls under Nachipalaiyam Panchayat, is home to over 300 families. Residents have repeatedly petitioned both the Panchayat administration and the District Collector, requesting proper street lighting and drinking water facilities. Despite raising these issues multiple times in Gram Sabha meetings and passing resolutions, no action has been taken to provide these basic amenities.

Frustrated by the lack of response, about 50 residents, along with school-going children, blocked Kangeyam Road in protest. Inspector Vijikumar of Palladam Police Station arrived at the scene and held talks with the protesters.

The police official assured the residents that he would discuss their demands with the Panchayat administration and requested them to withdraw their protest. Following this assurance, the protesters dispersed, ending the road blockade.

The sudden protest caused severe traffic disruption on Kangeyam Road for approximately one hour, affecting commuters in the area.
