Woman Stages Protest in Front of District Collector's Office, Demands Justice

A woman from Pollachi staged a protest with her children at the Coimbatore District Collector's office, seeking justice for her husband who was assaulted for preventing a child marriage.

Coimbatore: In a dramatic turn of events, a woman named Vellimani from Kullakkapalayam in Pollachi taluk staged a protest with her children in front of the Coimbatore District Collector's office on Monday. The protest was sparked by a series of events that began with her husband's intervention in a child marriage case.

Vellimani's husband, Justin Sundar Singh, who runs a grocery store, had recently prevented a child marriage between a young boy from Kullakkapalayam and a minor girl, daughter of Valli from Kollupalayam. This intervention angered Valli and her family members, leading to a violent assault on Justin Sundar Singh.

According to Vellimani, her husband was severely beaten by Valli, her husband Patteswaran, the minor boy, and the boy's mother Varnakili. As a result of the attack, Justin Sundar Singh suffered serious injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at Coimbatore Medical College Hospital. Vellimani filed a police complaint about the incident, following which the minor boy was arrested and placed in juvenile custody. The other three accused were initially absconding but later obtained anticipatory bail.

Vellimani alleges that since filing the complaint, her family has been receiving death threats. She also claims that the police are visiting her house based on a counter-complaint filed against her husband. Seeking justice and protection, Vellimani decided to approach the District Collector with a petition, which led to her protest.

The situation has become more dire for Vellimani's family as her husband's right eye had to be removed due to the severity of his injuries. She is now struggling to care for her three children without her husband's support. Through her protest, Vellimani is urging the District Collector to take appropriate action and ensure justice for her family in this complex case involving child marriage prevention and subsequent violence.
