Coimbatore: The AIADMK staged a massive protest near the Mettupalayam bus stand on Sunday, July 23, condemning the DMK government's recent electricity tariff hike and other policies deemed anti-people. The demonstration, organized by the Coimbatore Suburban North District unit of AIADMK, employed innovative methods, including protesters carrying hurricane lamps to symbolize their dissent.

The protest voiced opposition not only to the electricity tariff increase but also highlighted issues such as shortages of pulses and palm oil in ration shops, and the overall rise in prices of essential commodities. Demonstrators criticized the DMK government, labeling it as inefficient and accusing it of implementing policies detrimental to public welfare.



Key AIADMK leaders participated in the event, including PRG Arunkumar, MLA of Kavundampalayam constituency and Coimbatore Suburban North District Secretary. Other notable attendees were AK Selvaraj, MLA of Mettupalayam constituency, and OK Chinnaraj, former MLA. The protest also saw participation from various levels of party functionaries, including district, area, union, and panchayat-level administrators, as well as members of affiliated organizations and party activists.



The demonstration near the Mettupalayam bus stand drew significant attention, with AIADMK members turning out in large numbers to express their discontent with the current state government's policies. The use of hurricane lamps as a protest symbol added a unique visual element to the demonstration, effectively conveying the party's message of opposition to the electricity tariff hike.
