Daylight Robbery: Woman Loses 9 Sovereigns of Gold in Coimbatore

Two unidentified young men posing as potential tenants robbed a woman of 9 sovereigns of gold jewelry in broad daylight in Ilango Nagar, Avarampalayam, Coimbatore. Police have launched a manhunt to apprehend the culprits.


Coimbatore: In a shocking incident of daylight robbery, two unidentified young men stole 9 sovereigns of gold jewelry, including a thali (mangalsutra), from a woman after entering her house under the pretext of inquiring about rental accommodation. The incident occurred in Ilango Nagar, Avarampalayam area of Coimbatore.

The victim, Rajalakshmi, hailing from Chinna Dharapuram in Karur district, resides in a rented house in Ilango Nagar with her son and daughter. On the day of the incident, while Rajalakshmi was engaged in her routine household chores, two unidentified young men entered her house asking if the property was available for rent. Rajalakshmi informed them that they would need to speak with the house owner regarding such inquiries.

In a split second, the culprits snatched Rajalakshmi's 7-sovereign thali and a 2-sovereign gold chain, totaling 9 sovereigns of gold jewelry. As Rajalakshmi raised an alarm, the two young men quickly fled the scene on their two-wheeler before neighbors could arrive.

Upon receiving information about the incident, the Peelamedu police rushed to the spot and registered a case. A special team has been formed to apprehend the culprits. The police are currently investigating CCTV footage from the area to identify and trace the suspects.

The brazen daylight robbery has created a sense of panic in the locality. Police suspect that the culprits may have targeted the house after observing that a woman was alone on the premises. The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to solve the case and bring the perpetrators to justice.
