Two suspects from Kerala, Deepu and Udayakumar, appeared for interrogation at the CBCID office in Coimbatore on July 25, 2023, in connection with the 2017 Kodanad Estate murder and robbery case.

Coimbatore: Two suspects from Kerala, Deepu and Udayakumar, appeared for interrogation at the CBCID office located at the Coimbatore Police Training School grounds on Tuesday. The interrogation is being conducted by a team of police officers led by ADSP Murugavel in connection with the 2017 Kodanad Estate murder and robbery case.

The case dates back to 2017 when a security guard, Om Bahadur, was murdered during a robbery at the Kodanad Estate, which belonged to former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa and Sasikala. Initially, the Nilgiris district police registered and investigated the case. However, a significant turn of events occurred when Kanagaraj, Jayalalithaa's former driver and a key suspect in the case, died in a road accident.

Following these developments, the case was transferred to the CBCID (Crime Branch Criminal Investigation Department) for further investigation. So far, 12 individuals, including Sayan and Valayar Manoj, have been named as accused in the case. The CBCID has interrogated over 300 people in connection with this high-profile case.

Recently, summons were issued to four suspects to appear for questioning at the CBCID office in Coimbatore. Udayakumar and Deepu were asked to appear on July 25, while Jamsheer Ali and Jithin Joy were summoned for July 30. Deepu, listed as the fourth accused, and Udayakumar, the seventh accused in the case, complied with the summons and presented themselves for questioning today.

The ongoing investigation continues to draw attention as authorities work to unravel the complexities surrounding the Kodanad Estate murder and robbery case, which has remained in the public eye due to its connection to prominent political figures.
