AIADMK Councillors Stage Dharna Demanding Withdrawal of Online Building Approval Scheme

AIADMK councillors staged a dharna at the Coimbatore Corporation council meeting, demanding the withdrawal of the online building approval scheme, citing increased costs and burden on the poor.

Coimbatore: The Coimbatore Corporation council's ordinary meeting was held today, where AIADMK councillors Prabhakaran, Ramesh, and Sharmila staged a dharna, holding banners demanding the withdrawal of the online building approval scheme.

Speaking about the issue, AIADMK councillor Prabhakaran accused the Dravidian model government of misleading the public by giving full-page advertisements in newspapers across Tamil Nadu about the online approval scheme for house construction, as if it were a free housing scheme.

He further alleged that under this online approval scheme, the plan approval fee per square foot has been increased from Rs 44 to Rs 88, calling it an unjust act that burdens poor people dreaming of building a house.

Prabhakaran warned that if the scheme is not withdrawn, AIADMK will launch protests across Tamil Nadu. He criticized the government for imposing additional financial strain on the underprivileged who aspire to build their own homes.

The AIADMK councillors' protest at the corporation meeting highlighted the growing discontent over the implementation of the online building approval scheme and its financial implications on the common people.
