Tamil Nadu CM's absence at NITI Aayog meeting criticized by TMC leader G.K. Vasan

TMC leader G.K. Vasan criticizes Tamil Nadu CM for skipping NITI Aayog meeting, citing missed opportunity to address state's needs and accusing political motives behind the absence.

Coimbatore: Tamil Maanila Congress (TMC) leader G.K. Vasan has strongly criticized Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin for his absence at the recent NITI Aayog meeting. Vasan expressed his disappointment, stating that the Chief Minister has failed to reflect the expectations of the people who voted for him and his alliance.

Speaking to reporters, Vasan said, "The majority of voters in Tamil Nadu elected the DMK and its alliance to power, hoping they would address various issues in the state. Unfortunately, the Chief Minister has failed to live up to these expectations."

Vasan pointed out that while the Chief Minister often speaks about projects like AIIMS Madurai and the Metro Rail project, expecting future funding from the central government, he missed a crucial opportunity to directly raise questions and present Tamil Nadu's needs at the NITI Aayog meeting.

"The NITI Aayog meeting is a time-bound event where the Chief Minister is the sole representative who can effectively communicate the state's pressing needs and suggestions. By not attending, he has failed in his duty," Vasan emphasized. He added that there should be no politics involved in such meetings, as they are meant for the welfare of the state and its people.

The TMC leader drew comparisons with other opposition-ruled states, noting that West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Jharkhand Chief Minister attended the meeting despite having differences with the central government. "They attended for the sake of their people and states. We cannot accept the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister's decision to skip this important meeting," Vasan stated.

Addressing the issue of fund allocation, Vasan mentioned that the central government has been allocating funds to all states without discrimination. He explained that additional funds are gradually provided to states based on specific project requirements.

Vasan concluded by saying, "It's not possible for any government, be it BJP or Congress, to specifically allocate funds to all states in a single budget. This hasn't been done by previous governments either. The Chief Minister's absence at the NITI Aayog meeting is unacceptable, and we accuse him of failing to fulfill his duty to the people of Tamil Nadu."
