Coimbatore: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) staged a protest near Tatabad Power House in Coimbatore on Saturday, condemning the alleged neglect of Tamil Nadu in the Union Budget presented by the BJP-led central government.
C. Padmanabhan, the district secretary of CPI(M), led the demonstration. K. Saminathan, a state committee member, delivered a speech criticizing the budget. The protesters raised slogans against the Union government for ignoring Tamil Nadu, which is one of the highest tax-paying states in the country.
The demonstrators expressed their dissatisfaction with the rejection of demands from Coimbatore's industrial sector and the refusal to allocate funds for the Coimbatore Metro Rail project. They also criticized the Modi government for failing to address issues such as rising prices and unemployment.
Several CPI(M) executives and volunteers participated in the protest, including district committee members Kanakraj, Jothimani, Zakir, and Moorthy. Ramamoorthy, a councillor of Coimbatore Municipal Corporation, was also present at the demonstration.
The protest highlighted the party's concern over what they perceive as the central government's apathy towards Tamil Nadu's development needs and the general economic challenges faced by the common people.
