Coimbatore: A Digital Detox awareness walkathon was organized in Coimbatore on July 28 to highlight the potential negative effects of excessive use of mobile phones, televisions, and computers on both children and adults. The event, which covered a distance of 3 kilometers, began at R.S. Puram Shastri Ground and proceeded through R.S. Puram and North Coimbatore.

The walkathon saw enthusiastic participation from college students and private voluntary organizations. The primary goal of the event was to address the growing concern over digital addiction across all age groups and its potential harmful impacts.

Organizers pointed out that the increasing digital usage has led to a widespread dependency on technology, from children to the elderly. This dependence, they warned, could lead to significant adverse effects. The awareness campaign aimed to educate the public about the importance of balanced digital consumption.

Participants emphasized that while digital technology is essential, its excessive use can lead to various mental stresses and problems, particularly affecting the younger generation. They advocated for moderate and purposeful use of digital devices to avoid potential issues.

Over 500 participants, dressed in identical attire, took part in the walkathon, effectively raising awareness among the general public about the need for digital detox. The event successfully highlighted the importance of maintaining a healthy balance in the use of digital devices in daily life.
