Residents Protest Against New Liquor Shop in Kurichi Pudhu Nagar

Residents of Kurichi Pudhu Nagar in Coimbatore's 98th ward submit petition to District Collector, opposing the construction of a new liquor shop in their residential area, citing concerns for women and school children.

Coimbatore: Residents of Kurichi Pudhu Nagar in Coimbatore's 98th ward have submitted a petition to the District Collector, protesting against the construction of a new liquor shop in their residential area. The concerned citizens, carrying banners, gathered at the Collector's office to voice their opposition to the proposed establishment.

According to the petitioners, a building is being constructed for the purpose of selling alcohol in the Kurichi Pudhu Nagar (LIC Colony) area. The property allegedly belongs to an individual named Babu. The residents expressed grave concerns about the potential negative impact of the liquor shop on their community, especially on women commuting to factories and school children passing through the area.

In their petition, the residents emphasized that if alcohol sales were to commence at this location, it would pose a significant threat to the safety and well-being of women workers and school-going children. They urged the District Collector to take immediate action to prevent the liquor shop from opening and to halt any further construction activities related to the establishment.

The local community's proactive approach in addressing this issue highlights the growing awareness and concern among residents about the social implications of alcohol outlets in residential areas. They hope that their petition will prompt the authorities to reconsider the approval for the liquor shop and prioritize the safety and welfare of the neighborhood.

As the matter gains attention, it remains to be seen how the district administration will respond to the residents' concerns and what measures will be taken to address the situation in Kurichi Pudhu Nagar.
