Coimbatore: The Kovai kulangal padhukaapu amaippu marked a significant milestone with its 350th consecutive weekly field work at Vellalore Lake on Sunday, July 28, 2024. The event saw a large turnout of volunteers who actively participated in cleaning and maintaining the lake ecosystem.

The primary focus of the day's activities was the removal of plastic waste from the lake premises. Volunteers meticulously combed through the area, collecting and properly disposing of various plastic items that had accumulated over time. This effort is crucial in maintaining the lake's ecological balance and preventing pollution.

In addition to the cleanup, the team also carried out maintenance work on the Miyawaki forest adjacent to the lake. The Miyawaki method, known for creating dense, native forests in urban areas, has been implemented at Vellalore Lake as part of ongoing conservation efforts. Volunteers pruned the trees and performed necessary upkeep to ensure the healthy growth of this mini-forest.

The event saw participation from diverse groups, highlighting the community's commitment to environmental conservation. Students from Sri Krishna Arts and Science College's National Service Scheme (NSS) program were actively involved in the day's activities. Their enthusiasm and energy contributed significantly to the success of the field work.

Adding to the volunteer force were nursing students from KMCH Nursing College. Their participation not only aided in the cleanup efforts but also demonstrated the growing awareness among healthcare professionals about the importance of environmental health in overall public well-being.

This 350th weekly field work is a testament to the Kovai kulangal padhukaapu amaippu unwavering dedication to preserving the city's water bodies. The consistent efforts of the organization and its volunteers have played a crucial role in maintaining Vellalore Lake and raising awareness about the importance of lake conservation in urban areas.
