Coimbatore Corporation Reclaims 200 Crore Worth Land from Sahara City Developers

Coimbatore Corporation takes action to reclaim 10.5 acres of illegally occupied land worth 200 crores from Sahara City Developers in Saravanampatti area.

Coimbatore: The Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation has successfully reclaimed a parcel of land worth 200 crores that was illegally occupied by Sahara City Developers in the Saravanampatti area. The land, measuring 10.5 acres, was originally designated as Open Space Reserve (OSR) and was supposed to be handed over to the corporation.

The issue came to light during road improvement works in the Saravanampatti area. Kathirvel, the North Zone Chairman of Coimbatore Corporation, and Kathirvelusamy, the 4th Ward Councilor, gathered documents related to the illegal occupation and presented them to higher officials.

The encroachment dates back to 2009 when Saravanampatti was still a town panchayat. Sahara City Developers had divided 109 acres of land into house plots, with 10.5 acres set aside as OSR land to be handed over to the local body. However, the company continued to occupy this land even after the area was merged with the Coimbatore Corporation as the 4th ward.

Upon receiving orders from higher authorities, the corporation officials took action to reclaim the encroached land. The operation to remove Sahara City Developers' possessions from the site is being carried out under the supervision of Sathya, the Assistant Town Planning Officer of the North Zone, along with other corporation officials.

This reclamation of valuable public land marks a significant step in the corporation's efforts to protect and preserve community spaces. The recovered 10.5 acres will now be utilized for public purposes as originally intended.
