Deputy Commissioner (Traffic) S.Saravanan flags off March for Science Rally

To commemorate the World Earth Day, Coimbatore based School of Science in association with Residents Awareness Association of Coimbatore (RAAC) organized March for Science Rally, this evening at Race Course.  The rally was flagged off by S. Saravanan, Deputy Commissioner (Traffic).

March for Science is a global rally aimed at acknowledging the vital role science plays in our lives and the need to respect and encourage research that gives us insight into the world. This World Earth Day, March for Science is happening in over 500 cities world-wide. An unprecedented gathering of Scientists and people is been planned at Washington, USA. However, only 3 countries are marching for science in Asia. And, it's indeed, over-whelming that Coimbatore is the only city representing India for this globally recognized rally.

'We aim to create awareness among people that science is important in its own way and it could save the planet and change the world',  said Saradha, COO of School of Science.

Ahead of the flag off, Saravavan, DC (traffic) shared that "A few days back, I was approached by four college-going students who apprised me of the concept of 'March for Science' rally. I was taken aback for a moment, as these students thought differently to create awareness on science, while most of today's generation are glued to their phones and tabs. I appreciated their efforts and readily accepted their request to flag of the rally.

Not just today, every single day should be celebrated as Earth day. Always remember, we have not inherited this earth from our forefathers but we have borrowed it from our children, so we need to leave a better planet for the coming generation. Science has the ability to solve all our problems and it's because of science, today we live in this advanced world. Again, it's up to us to use Science for good and not for destruction."

Nearly 50 people including small kids marched for this one-of-a-kind rally holding placards and raising striking slogans like Stand Up for Science, We love science and much more.
