Intensified Patrolling in Tourist and Forest Areas of Coimbatore District - Collector's Announcement

Coimbatore District Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati announced increased patrolling in tourist and forest areas due to heavy rains. Precautionary measures and disaster management teams are in place to ensure public safety.

Coimbatore: District Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati today launched an awareness campaign on the importance of rainwater harvesting at the Collectorate premises. The campaign, organized by the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board, features a short film being screened on an LED mobile vehicle of the Public Relations Office.

Speaking to reporters after the event, Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati stated that Coimbatore district has been experiencing rainfall since July 30, with heavy rains particularly in Valparai and Pollachi areas. He noted that the desilting of lakes during summer has minimized the impact of the current rains.

The Collector reported two casualties due to a landslide in Valparai. He mentioned that the state government has issued various advisories regarding the rains. After inspecting Valparai, areas prone to landslides have been identified, and preventive measures are being implemented throughout the region.

Kranthi Kumar Pati emphasized that new buildings in the area must be properly inspected before granting permission. A state-level disaster management team has been sent to Wayanad, with another team stationed in Mettupalayam and Valparai as a precautionary measure. Nandakumar has been appointed as the district monitoring officer to oversee rain prevention measures.

The Collector advised residents not to stay in dangerous houses and urged tourists to avoid areas with high water levels. He stressed the importance of safety for visitors.

Regarding tourist spots in Coimbatore district, which are mostly located in the Western Ghats forest areas, the Collector stated that police and forest department officials have been instructed to conduct regular patrols.

Furthermore, he assured that the control room is operational 24 hours a day, ready to provide relief to the public at any time they contact for assistance.
