Heavy rains in Nilgiris district caused a landslide on the Mettupalayam-Ooty railway track, leading to the cancellation of the mountain train service on August 1. Boulders and fallen trees obstructed the tracks.
Coimbatore: The mountain train service between Mettupalayam in Coimbatore district and Ooty in Nilgiris district has been cancelled for today (August 1) due to a landslide caused by heavy rains in the Nilgiris district.

The landslide occurred between Adderley and Hillgrove railway stations, resulting in boulders rolling onto the railway tracks and trees falling across the path. This obstruction forced the Salem Railway Division administration to cancel the mountain train service for the day.

The morning train, which usually departs from Mettupalayam at 7:10 AM, was halted midway and returned to Mettupalayam railway station. Passengers who had boarded the train were left disappointed and had to return.
The Salem Railway Division has announced that the Mettupalayam-Ooty mountain train service will remain cancelled for today. The administration is expected to clear the tracks and assess the safety before resuming the service.
