Coimbatore Corporation Recognizes Sanitation Workers with SBM Awards and Honors

Coimbatore Corporation, in collaboration with 'CCMC Green Warriors,' launched SBM sanitation awards in July 2024. A sanitary worker won the Best Sanitary Worker award, while another team was honored for recovering a gold chain from waste.

Coimbatore: The Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation (CCMC) has initiated a series of measures to recognize and reward sanitation workers for their dedication and service. In collaboration with a group of citizen activists known as 'CCMC Green Warriors,' the Corporation recently launched the Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) sanitation awards.

For July 2024, Gnanasekaran from East Zone Ward No. 52 was awarded the SBM Best Sanitary Worker award. The recognition was based on various criteria, including proper collection, segregation, and disposal of waste in his designated ward.

In another noteworthy incident, the CCMC sanitation staff from Ward No. 91 in the South Zone were recognized for their exceptional effort in recovering a gold chain that had been accidentally discarded in the garbage. The team of six sanitary workers meticulously sifted through 1.5 tonnes of waste to locate and retrieve the 6-sovereign gold chain, which was subsequently returned to its rightful owner.

Acknowledging their commitment and honesty, the Rotary Club of Coimbatore honored the team with a cash award of ₹5,000. This gesture not only recognizes the dedication of the sanitation workers but also highlights the importance of their role in maintaining cleanliness and serving the community.

These initiatives by the Coimbatore Corporation and local organizations demonstrate a growing appreciation for the often-overlooked work of sanitation workers and their crucial role in keeping the city clean and safe.
