Tamil Puligal Party Welcomes Supreme Court Verdict on Arunthathiyar Reservation

Nagai Thiruvalluvan, leader of Tamil Puligal Party, welcomed the Supreme Court's verdict upholding internal reservation for Arunthathiyars within the Scheduled Caste category in Coimbatore. He praised the DMK government and progressive movements for this victory.


Coimbatore: Nagai Thiruvalluvan, leader of the Tamil Puligal Party, addressed reporters at the Coimbatore Press Club, welcoming the Supreme Court's verdict that upholds the internal reservation for Arunthathiyars within the Scheduled Caste category.

Thiruvalluvan stated, "The long-standing demand for internal reservation for the most backward Arunthathiyar people within the Scheduled Caste category was accepted, and a law was passed during Kalaignar's rule in 2009. Based on this, Arunthathiyar people were progressing in education and employment. However, some filed cases claiming this law was unconstitutional. After hearing arguments from both sides, the Supreme Court judges have given a historic verdict that internal reservation for the backward people within the Scheduled Caste category is valid. This verdict essentially upholds the Tamil Nadu Arunthathiyar Act."



He further added, "We see this as a victory for the DMK, progressive movements that fought for internal reservation, Arunthathiyar community organizations, and lawyers. We express our gratitude to leader Kalaignar who introduced this law and to Thalapathi Stalin who stood by it to bring it to this valid state."

Thiruvalluvan mentioned that he would meet the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister tomorrow morning to express gratitude regarding this matter. He also stated that they would continue to emphasize their demand for a caste-wise census and proportional reservation based on each caste's population.

The Tamil Puligal Party leader expressed that this verdict is a significant step towards social justice and equality, particularly for the Arunthathiyar community, who have been historically marginalized even within the Scheduled Caste category.
